When India became independent, Dr. Rathod's family lost everything: their home and all their wealth due to riots and looting that ensued during that time. The story begins with Dr. Rathod's grandfather, Thakur Bhanupratap Singh (Shahrukh Khan), who served as a senior police officer in the British Indian Police Service under British rule in India. Dr. Rathod's grandfather was a stern disciplinarian who treated his subordinates with great respect, but with no tolerance for corruption. Dr. Rathod's grandfather served as an inspector with the Indian police service during the time of the Partition of India in 1947. He was appointed as a senior police officer under British rule in India. Dr. Rathod's father, Thakur Dhanraj Singh, was also a member of British Indian Police Service during this time and was posted to Bhatinda. Thakur Dhanraj Singh was deeply committed to the noble cause of building a modern nation. Dr. Rathod's father had the highest respect for the law and had dedicated his life to preserving peace and order. Thakur Dhanraj Singh served as a police officer under British rule in India, stationed in Bhatinda, Punjab, India. Under his leadership, many dangerous criminals were arrested and apprehended without fear or favor. In 1947 when the British Indian provinces were partitioned into two countries - India and Pakistan - Thakur Dhanraj Singh chose to serve in India which remained a democratic country. Dr. cfa1e77820
